The Chinese American Society (CAS) has sponsored Leadership Program since 1987. This year's program will be on June 19 to 23 in Washington, D.C. The program aims to provide an opportunity for college or university students of Chinese origin to be exposed to the political processes in the United States Government, particularly the dedicated check and balance mechanism among the three branches of government, and to familiarize the students with contemporary US-Sino relations and the role of Chinese Americans in the nation's public service. The program consists of lectures, and visits to Congress, the White House, federal government agencies and selected think-tanks based in the Washington, D.C. area. The applicant for the program must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of Chinese origin, enrolling as a ful-time or part-time students with good academic standing in American colleges, and active in school and/or community activities, as well as demonstrate strong interest in public affairs.
