Trial of Eugene Hsu on April 15

On the evening of August 28, 2001, Dr. Eugene You-Tsai Hsu was arrested by the U.S. Customs agents while in his home in Blue Springs, Missouri. He has been charged with conspiring with the Chinese government to export U.S. military technology. Not only is Dr. Hsu innocent of the charges, he has been the victim of numerous outrageous actions by the federal government. Dr. Hsu is now awaiting trial, scheduled for April 15, 2002, to be held at the U.S. District Court in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Hsu, 59 year-old Taiwan-born naturalized U.S. citizen, received a PhD in Education from Kansas State University. After many years as a teacher and a lecturer, entered the commercial sector in 1985, and worked in the machine tool industry for the past decade. In 1998, He founded his own machine tool distribution company, working out of his home in Blue Springs, Missouri.

According to his family, from the beginning, the case has been filled with instances of racial profiling, racial discrimination, and political motivation. The only reason Dr. Hsu came under suspicion and was investigated was because he has a Chinese last name and "speaks with a thick Asian accent." was brought into his detention hearing with his hands and legs in shackles. He and his family have been severely traumatized by the government's accusations, and Dr. Hsu's business and reputation have obviously been harmed irreparably.
