The American Library Association's preconference on medical resources for diverse communities will be held on June 14, 2002 at Marquis Hotel, Atlanta, Georgia. It is sponsored by the American Indian Library Association, the Asian Pacific American Librarians Association, the Black Caucus of the American Library Association, the Chinese American Librarians Association, REFORMA: National Association to Promote Library and Information Services to Latinos and the Spanish-Speaking, and the National Library of Medicine (NLM). The preconference will provide attendees with information that will increase their awareness of NLM's resources and services, and skills that will allow them to better serve diverse populations in this subject area. This is a full day session with a speaker and a lunch. The preconference is funded by the NLM and will include presentations on NLM databases and on selected projects that NLM has supported. Time will also be allotted for small group outreach planning sessions. Topics include brief overview of the NLMNLM's Electronic Resources-PubMed, MEDLINEplus, the Toxnet databases, ClinicalTrials.gov, the NLM GatewayOutreach Activities- Toxicology Information Outreach Program - Arctic Health - Public Library Partnership - Projects with Community Based Organizations.
