Henry Hu commented on bank loans to Enron

Citigroup and J.P. Morgan/Chase are the two biggest lenders to Enron which declared bankruptcy. The two giants did not see end coming, wrote Patrick McGeehan in The New York Times Jan. 22. Mr. McGeehan interviewed Henry T.C. Hu on bank loans to Enron. Mr. Hu traced the banks' Enron mistakes and provided a fine analysis of the problem. He stated "banks have a habit of making mistakes. When you are talking about making loan decisions and the like, especially when you are confronted with a client that is at least by outward appearance successful and rapidly growing, you as an individual banker hate to be the one who raises his hand and says that emperor has no clothes." Mr. Hu, graduated from Yale University undergraduate majoring in economics and law school, is professor of banking and finance law at the University of Texas, Austin.
