Stockyards Theatre presents The Rape of Nanking


The Stockyards Theatre in Chicago presents its flagship production of the 2001-2002 session, The Rape of Nanking , according to Minnie. Minnie Vautrin, a graduate from the University of Illinois in 1912, worked as a missionary in Nanking. China. In 1937, she and her cohorts saved 10,000 women and children from the invading Japanese Imperial Army. The anti-war drama is a commemoration of the heroism of Minnie and a celebration of what people endured and how they survived the terrors of Japanese aggression. The drama, by Chicago's own Margaret G. Waterstreet, directed by Gat Gleason, and with original music by Gillian Gibson and J. Johnson is presented from January 5 to February 10.
