The Chinese American Civic Council of Chicago (CACC) will host the 2002 Miss Chicago Chinatown Pageant on Saturday, August 3, 2002 in the Grand Ballroom of the Holiday Inn Mart Plaza, in the Merchandise Mart Apparel Center, 350 North Orleans Street, Chicago. Cocktails are at 5 p.m.; dinner at 6 p.m.; with ceremonies following. Tickets are $ 55.00 each. Reservation deadline is Monday, July 29, 2002. CACC recently completed another Essay and Art Contest for Grade School Children in conjunction with Asian American Heritage Month. Funds help the organization to provide free bus service each week to take Senior Citizens grocery shopping; allow the planning of different activities for youth; and keep. CACC's Girl Scout Troop active. The Girl Scouts made various ornaments that were used in decorating the ethnic Christmas Tree at the Museum of Science and Industry's 2001 Christmas Around the World Program. CACC's board of directors has joined with other community organizations in working with the Chicago Park District in planning the expansion of Ping Tom Memorial Park; has taken an active role in the political process as Voter Registrars, and hosted a political education forum in which the candidates were invited to detail their programs and agendas. For over 30 years, CACC has sponsored the Miss Chicago Chinatown Pageant. The Pageant, a highlight of the Chinese Community, will be held on August 3 this year to choose a young lady to represent the Chinese community in civic and social functions. It also serves as a benefit for the organization.
