Youth symphonic ensemble presented Discovery Concert


The Children's Orchestra Society, a non-profit organization founded in 1962 by Dr. H. T. Ma, cellist Yo-Yo Ma's father, presented its eighth annual Discovery Concert at Alice Tully Hall in on June 3. Each year the society presents the winner of an audition process as a concerto soloist. This year, the honor went to Kevin Shue, a Taiwan-born violinist who is a senior at Manhasset High School of Long Island. He played the first two movements of Buch's Violin Concerto in G minor. The Children's Orchestra Society offers training programs in orchestra and chamber music to youngsters. The society is managed by its executive director, Yeou-Cheng Ma, Yo-Yo Ma's sister who is a gifted violinist and a pediatrician, and her husband, Michael Dadap, its music director.
