Limp jewelry business in NY Chinatown

In Chinatown, New York, some 250 jewelers are affected by 9/11 attack. Jennifer Lee reported that the jewelry industry are suffocating by a triple blow: "the World Trade Center attack slashed the number of financial workers and foreign tourists; the limp economy reduced consumer spending on luxury goods; and the closing of the Grand Street station cut off the closest subway stop." Ms. Lee said, Chinatown jewelry business is down 30 to 50 percent compared with last year, and significant number of workers laid off. (The New York Times, June 29, 2000).
