The eighty North America Taiwan studies will be held at the International House of Chicago, on June 28-30. Topics in the annual program on June 28 include "From Chicago 1985 to Chicago 2002: the development of Taiwan studies," "Transformation of urban policy under globalization," "Japanese hegemony and formation of colonial subjectivity," Social linguistics: language planning, policy, and implication," "Rethinking social movements in metropolitan Taipei,""Identity politics in Taiwan: cultural and national," "Environmental studies: policies and collective action, ""Economy, the state, and globalization," " Writing Hoklo,"and "Negotiations of identities in theatrical spaces." The June 29 meeting is devoted to a theme discussion on power, knowledge production and agency towards a critical Taiwan studies and other topics.
