Chinese community protested Taiwan Cultural Festival


The Taiwan Cultural Festival held on May 17 faced strong protests from the Chinese community. In the Taiwan Cultural Festival on May 17, with financial support of the Chinese government in Taiwan, in Westmont, Illinois, some sponsors used this occasion to advocate Taiwan independent movement. Instead of Chinese national flags, flags of "Republic of Taiwan" were displayed. Some sponsors, members of the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association, present objected to the display and left after their protests were ignored. For this, institutions, the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association called an emergency board meeting on May 27and issued a stern protest against the Taiwan independent movement and the display of "Republic of Taiwan" flags.
