Beijing women ensemble will perform on March 15


Chinese Music Society of North American will Hold an opening concert of Beijing Women Ensemble at Preston Bradley Hall, Chicago Cultural Center, 78E. Washington street on Friday 7:30 p.m., March 15, 2002. Admission is free. Beijing Young Women's Folk Music Group is composed of Beijing Red Poppy Ladies' Percussion and Lin-Yue-Ran Chinese Traditional Chamber Music, the two very popular groups on the performing stage of Beijing nowadays. The group includes seven young female players at the average of 22, who are graduates or students of the highest Chinese music institutions, and three of them are graduates of master degree. More than ten kinds of the traditional music instruments that the group uses are the most common ones in the Chinese music, such as Erhu, Flite, Xiao, Zheng, Pipa, dulcimer, big drum and chain drum, etc. and with stunning skills of mastering them the players can exquisitely present their comprehension to the music works. The program includes not only the quintessence of traditional Chinese music pieces, but also some newly composed or arranged ones based on the traditional style, thus showing the complete picture of development of the Chinese music.
