The Chicago metropolitan area has an estimated 73,000 Chinese residents and 28 Chinese ethnic churches. To Chinese, Christianity is not monotheistic. Many Chinese are worshiping their ancestors, the most popular religion in China. Rukmini Callimachi reported that Chinese pastors are struggling to teach monotheistic ways of Christianity to a people who worship a multitude of ancestral spirits. Rev. Lit Inn Wu, the pastor of the newest Chinese church, the True Light Lutheran Christian Church in Streamwood, was quoted as saying:"It's a fine line. What I try to tell the people in my congregation is that it is O.K. to respect our ancestors, but it is not O.K. to worship them. This is where the problem and the confusion arises."
