What people earn

A special report, "What people earn," in Parade Magazine March 2, presents earnings of over 150 people in different profess ions. It also reveals that health-care jobs were recession-proof: demand is still strong for dental hygienists and nurses; only 30% of Americans out of work and looking for a job qualify for unemployment insurance benefits; lower oil and natural gas prices saved most U.S. household more than $400 last year.; at the end of 2001, clothing, furniture, TVs and personal computers all cost less than they did 12 months earlier; and many consumer prices have remained stable or even fallen; the median weekly salary for all men was $672 and for women $511. Gregory S. Chen, an acupuncturist in Birmingham, Alabama earned $150,000.
