Jade Eagle, a fiction by James Bok Wong, was published. The book is a historical novel of love, amidst tragedy and war, covering the period from 1937 to 1952, with settings mostly in China. Substantial parts of Jade Eagle are based on personal experiences and knowledge. The hero of Jade Eagle, John Hanson, was a nine-and-a-half-year-old boy in 1937 when Japan attacked China in the undeclared war. Hanson experienced his first tragedies of war in 1938 when his father was killed in an air raid. During the Korean War, he serves as an American fighter pilot, and is shot down, captured and returned to China, where he is reunited with the people he loves.
Dr. Wong, the author, had served in several American military airfields in China during 1944 and 1945. He came back to the States, studied at the University of Maryland, and received his doctoral degree from University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 1954. He is president of James B. Wong Associates, Los Angeles.
