The American Red Cross has provided a total of 490 million from the Liberty Disaster Relief Fund to assist those directly affected by the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. A total of 3,128 families were helped, an average of $50,000 per family for the first nine months following the attacks. These families will receive additional payments prior to September 11, 2002 to cover an entire year of financial support . The World Journal received $782,311 donated by Chinese in the United States. They will be distributed to Chinese families, an average of $5000 per family.
