four Chinese Americans awarded Ellis Island Medal of Honor


Ellis Island Medals of Honors were awarded to 130 people including four Chinese on Saturday, May 11. Four Chinese-Americans recognized to have made significant contributions to our nation's heritage are: Dewey Fong, Deputy Chief of New York Police Department, Professor Heo-peh Lee, President and CEO, Shie-jie Enterprises Group, Johnny M. J. Lu, President, Lu Coral Company, Inc., and Mark M. Lii, Ten Ren's Tea and Ginseng Company.

The Ellis Island Medals of Honor organization is a member of The National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations (NECO) Inc. It was created in 1986 to honor the many ancestral groups who through struggle, sacrifice and success, helped build this great nation. Four Presidents, several Senators and Congressman and Nobel Prize Winners are among the remarkable group of individuals to receive the Ellis Island Medals of Honor for their outstanding contributions to America. This year, the prestigious Medals will again be presented to outstanding Americans who have distinguished themselves as citizens of the United States.
