Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced appointments of four Asian Americans


On May 29, Mayor Bloomberg announced appointment of four Asian Americans to the government of New York City. Among them, two are Chinese Americans: Benjamin K. Chu, President of the Health and Hospitals Corporation, and Betty B. Wu, Commissioner for the Department of Employment. Dr. Chu, prior to his nomination, was Senior Associated Dean at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, Vice President for Clinical Affairs and Associate Dean at the New York University School of Medical Center, and Senior Vice President for Medical an Professional Affairs at HHC. Dr. Chu received a BA at Yale University, an MPH at the Mailman School at Columbia University, and a MD of New York University School of Medicine. Commissioner Wu, prior to her appointment, was Manager of Business Development at Bloomberg, Asian Equity Sales Manager at Nava Standard Chartered Securities, Inc., Manager of Investment Services Department at Matheson PFC Ltd., and Vice President at Salomon Brothers Ltd., Hong Kong. Ms. Wu received a BA at the University of Washington.
