Yang Jianli detained in China


Yang Jianli was detained on April 21 in Kunming, Yunnan Province, China. He went to China to investigate labor unrest. Dr. Yang received a doctorate in mathematics from University of California, Berkeley, and a doctorate from Harvard University in political economy. He is Founder, Independent Federation of Chinese Students and Scholars; President, Foundation for China in 21st Century; Research Fellow, Harvard Kennedy School of Government; and
Editor-in-Chief, China in the 21st Century series. A Tiananmen veteran and a major leader of the Chinese democracy movement, Dr. Yang, together with 48 others, is on the top black list of the Chinese government.
