Chinese Americans election score

Martha Wong, a native Houstonian and second generation Chinese American, is the first APA woman to be elected to the State House in Texas.

Doris Ling-Cohan made history this election cycle with her election to the New York State Supreme Court. She is the first APA woman to serve on the state's highest bench

In Washington, State Senator Paul H. Shin, a democrat, won re-election.

In California, Leland Yee was elected to the Assembly.

In San Francisco, Chinese Americans Ed Jew, Marks Lam, Andrew Lee and Fiona Ma all ran for this prized seat on San Francisco's only APA majority supervisorial district. APAs make up 53 percent of the Sunset District.

Mabel Teng, a former San Francisco supervisor, won the seat of assessor-recorder against long-time incumbent Doris Ward, who had recently been running a nasty "Truth About Teng" campaign.

In other citywide races, Eddie Chin was re-elected to the school board and Lawrence Wong was re-elected to the Community College Board. (Source: AsianWeek, Nov. 8-14, 2002)
