In a research report to the American College of Rheumatology, a team of investigators led by Dr. Davis Hunter, assistant professor at the Boston University School of Medicine, studied 2,607 60-year-old residents in Beijing who use chopsticks. It suggests that chopsticks may play a role in the development of hand osteoarthritis . Many disagree. Says Dr. Can Li, a physician at the bone department of Beijing's Xuanwu Hospital, it is ridiculous. Says Yang Jianping, "I have walked with my feet since I was born. Does that mean my feet will get arthritis? I have chewed with my mouth since I was born. Does that mean my mouth will have arthritis?" (Source: Ted Anthony, The Chicago Tribune, Dec. 4, 2003).
