Qing Chang killed during police chase

Qing Chang was killed during a police chase through the Loop over a stolen wallet on January 2. She was walking home when a car being chased by police slammed into another car and struck and killed her. A law suit was filed against the city for wrongful death by her husband, Yong Huang.

Ms. Chang, 25, graduated from Peking University came to the United States in 1997. She received two master's degrees in physical chemistry and mathematics respectively from the University of Chicago. Ms. Chang worked for a technology consulting firm, ThoughtWorks as a software developer. On Saturday, January 10, some 200 people gathered and mourned her death. Her parents, Yushu Chang and Xiuling Zheng, and a sister Chun Chang who had traveled from China also attended the memorial service. Her husband was at the California of Institute doing post-doctoral work when the accident occurred.

Chang was brilliant and curious. Reported Diane Rado (Chicago Tribune, Jan. 11, 2003), her colleagues remembered a brilliant co-worker who always had a smile, didn't get caught up in office politics and never avoided a challenge."
