The Center for Asia Pacific Affairs (CAPA) will host an exhibit on Japan's World War II biological and chemical warfare program. The exhibit, to be held at the CAPA office in Prince Center (39-07 Prince Street, Suite 3H, Flushing, New York) will open on July 31 and run through August 2, 11am to 7pm daily. The exhibit will feature informational posters on Japan's biological and chemical warfare research program in China during World War II. Other materials on the Sino-Japanese War will also be on display. On Saturday, 2 August 2003 from 1:30pm to 5pm, CAPA will host a panel discussion featuring a delegation from China who will present ongoing research and developments on the topic. The visiting delegation includes: Ms. Wang Xuan, Chair of the Germ Warfare Litigation Team in Japan; Professor Yang Wanzhu, Director of the Institute for Japanese Germ Warfare Research of the Hunan University of Arts and Science; Ms Chen Yufang, Chair, and Mr. Wang Yixing, Vice Chair of Changde Investigation Committee on Japanese Germ Warfare; and Ms. Guo Lingmei, member of Japanese Germ Warfare Investigation Committee and Producer-Director at the China Central TV. Joining the discussion will be Mr. Daniel Barenblatt, author of A Plague upon Humanity: The Secret Genocide of Axis Japan's Germ Warfare Operation (Harper Collins, forthcoming 2004). Professor Richard Chu, Rochester Institute of Technology, will be moderator. Both events are free and open to the public. The exhibit was held in Chicago and St. Louis and will tour other cities after New York.
CAPA is a newly formed non-profit group whose objective is to promote and facilitate cultural and educational exchanges between people in the United States and the countries of Asia.
