Chinese American Librarians Association's 2003 annual conference will be held on Sunday, June 22, 2003 in Toronto at the ALA/CLA Annual Conference. The central theme of the conference is Library Resources and Services for Chinese American/Canadian Communities. It will discuss (1) how to provide quality library services to the increasing Chinese American/Canadian communities? (2) what to do when you don't have a language/cultural specialist on your staff? (3) where to go to get assistance? Panelists will share strategies and best practices in planning; networking; resource sharing; selecting, collecting and processing scholarly and popular materials; and outreach to the Chinese American/Canadian communities to introduce library services and resources. The four panelist their topics are: Sheng D. Chiu, President of Pan Asian Publications: "Library Materials for Chinese-Americans and Chinese-Canadians"; Fidelia Lau, Branch Head, Riverdale Branch, Toronto Public Library: "Meeting the Needs of the Chinese Canadian Community - the Riverdale Branch Experience"; Wei Chi Poon, Librarian of the Asian American Collection at University of California, Berkeley: "Reclaiming a History of Chinese in America"; and Thomas Alford, Deputy Director, Queens Borough Public Library: "An Urban Public Library Model". The conference is followed by CALA's traditional evening banquet awards dinner.
