The Dragon Star program is an organized volunteer effort to provide timely and comprehensive training in computer science and engineering to Chinese graduate students on selected research subjects. The program began in 2002. It selected six distinguished professors in the United States and dispatched them to China to teach six courses at the graduate level. More than 500 students and faculty members attended Dragon Star classes. The 2003 program will commence in May 2003. The 2003 program will be expanded to eight courses. Each class ranges from 10-20 contact hours in one week. Three courses are planned to be conducted in Western China. The Dragon Star program pays round-trip fees to volunteers from donations. The program is established by Dr. Wei Zhou, Vice-President for Research, Texas A&M University.
