Asian Pacific American Heritage Month celebrated in Chicago


Mayor Richard M. Daley gave a reception in celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month in the evening Tuesday, May 13 at the Cultural Center. The reception was arranged by the Chicago Commission on Human Relations Advisory Council on Asian Affairs. Consuls General of the Republic of China,India, and the Philippines were among the guests. Two Found Asian Awards were presented to Mr. Arcadio V. Calabas along with American Legion Filipino Post 509 and Chicago American Legion Nisei Post 1183.

On May 16, Congressman Bobby L. Rush prepares the 5th Annual Congressional Reception to recognize the dedication of individuals, community organizations and media in the Asian American Community to serving the people of the State of Illinois. Ms. Maria Pappas, Cook County Treasurer, invites everyone to a reception for Asian-Pacific Heritage Month celebration on May 28. The Fifth Annual Asian Pacific American Heritage Month Reception by Illinois State Comptroller Daniel W. Hynes is scheduled on May 24 at the Budlong Woods Library.

The Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs presents a series of program in the month of May, including OCA Chicago Presents the Q Bookmark (May 6), A Tribute to Quincy Wong (May 6), the MVD Series: Dancing in the Spirit (May 9), and All Chinese Music Concert (May 17).
