The two news articles in the New York Post http://nypost.com/news/regionalnews/55533.htm and Daily News http://www.nydailynews.com/news/crime_file/story/64848p-60422c.html show an unfortunate but juicy incident in Queens on January 3rd this year. The woman, Connie Coleman, was dining in a restaurant (Caffé on the Green) with her 2 sisters and family friends, all Chinese. The restaurant is owned by Joe Franco, reportedly a member of the Gambino family. Her attacker, George Fortunato was supposed to have mob ties. Fortunato & his family allegedly tossed a glass of wine in Coleman's face, sparking a fight in which the woman was knocked to the ground and pummeled. They have been charged with a hate crime as racist epithets were used by the attackers. Coleman who immigrated from Hong Kong 33 years ago (at age 12) is demanding stiff punishments for her attackers. Good for her. (Guy M. Wong)
