The Women's Studies Program was presented by the Department of Sociology and Social Work and Lehman College Library on May 8 at the Lehman Library. The May 8th program consisted of two lectures. Dr. Ellen Salem gave a lecture on "Women in China: the view from sweatshop and board room." She talked about the situation of sweat shops and limited number of female government official at a higher level. Though many women are in business, but women entrepreneurs constituted only 20%. Dr. Salem is President, Salem & Associates. The second lecture by Dr. Yu-Ning Li deals with Chinese American Women's Experiences during the September 11th Tragedy. She mentioned Betty Ong's heroism in a hijacked American aircraft, and Tsu Chi Foundation donated of$1.8 million of relief to victims of 9/11. Dr. Li is Professor of Asian Studies and Asian American Studies, St. John's University. She is also the publisher of three journals: Journal of Chinese American Studies ( 2001- ) , Chinese Americans in Science and Technology (2003- ), and New Flushing Journal (2003- ), all semi-annals.
