Rong-Yan Tang joins Chicago Symphony Orchestra


Rong-Yan Tang and other two violinists, Wendy Koone and Hermine Gagré, are hired by the Chicago Orchestra. (CSO). Tang, 30, who served as associate cencertmaster of the Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Philharmonic, was tapped for CSO as the first section violinist by Daniel Barenboim. Tang, born in Shanghai, was educated at Louisiana State University and the Cleveland Institute of Music. She started playing violin at age of 4. Tang says she isn't intimidated about coming into a great orchestra and is ready for move up professionally. (Source: John von Rhein, Chicago Tribune, Nov. 23, 2003).
