Fong Fuming released


Fong Fuming, 68, an electrical engineer and one-time power official of Zhejiang Province in China, was accused of industrial espionage and bribery and sentenced to five years in prison March 2002 in Beijing. Reports the New China News Agency, from 1995 to 1999 Mr. Fong illegally obtained documents containing state secrets and bribed governmental officials. It says that Fong giave state workers $245,000 in bribes to help foreign investors bid on Chinese power projects. Fong was released two years earlier for "repentant behavior" and deported by the Chinese government He arrived at Newark Liberty International Airport on Monday night, October 27 to join his family in New Jersey.
