International campaign against Japan's quest for a permanent UN Security Council seat


In commemoration of 86th 1919 Korean independence movement day, Historical Justice Now, Inc. and ALPHA-LA (the Alliance to Preserve the History of World War II- Los Angeles, www.alpha-la.org) will announce an international petition campaign to alert the general public of Japan's move to obtain a permanent seat in the U.N. Security Council and to urge the U.N. to reject Japan's bid.

The International Solidarity Petition Campaign against Japan for a permanent UN Security Council seat will be held February 28 at the J.J. Grand Hotel in Los Angeles. Meeting speakers include Yosh Yamanaka, Director, ALPHA-LA; Joon Young Rhee, Senior Advisor, Korean Alliance of World War II Atrocities; Jean Chung, Co-President, Historical Justice Now, Jaewon Jeong, Plaintiff, forced labor case Jeong v. Onoda; and Barry Fisher, Attorney for forced labor and comfort women lawsuits victims.

The petition campaign is a worldwide collective movement led by the International Solidarity Council, consisting of civilian organizations of 7 wartime victim countries and regions - U.S., S. Korea, N. Korea, China, Taiwan, the Philippines, the Netherlands-as well as Japan.
