Jook Hong Lee passed away peacefully on January 16, 2005 after a long illness at the age of 83.. Born in China in 1921, the eldest of three children, he immigrated to America in 1935. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1942 and was a member of the U.S. 555th Service Group, 14th Air Force and was stationed in China. After the war, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 27 years. Upon retirement, he worked as a court interpreter for the City and County of San Francisco and practiced real estate. He was the docent and treasurer of the Chinese Historical Society and was active in the Chinese community. Throughout his life, he continued to pursue his passion for life including watercolor painting, tai chi, reading and writing, carpentry and cooking. Lee is survived by Mai Jean, his wife of 58 years; his sister, Sun Moy Lum and her husband Dennis Lum and their two children, Philip and Judy; his son, George and his wife, Angie; his four daughters, Clara and her husband, Wesley Hom; Patricia; Beverly and her husband, James Huey; and, Jacqueline; and his seven grandchildren.
