CALA Southwest Chapter annual meeting April

The Chinese American Llibrarians Association South West Chapter annual meeting will be held at the Texas Library Association annual conference in Austin, Texas April 6 at 10:00 a.m. Its program, "Serving Non-English Speaking Patrons in an E-environment," focuses on meeting the electronic information needs of non-English speaking patrons. A panel of three scholars/librarians will share their insights on access, reference, and user need evaluation specifically related to library electronic resources collection.

Their topics are: (1) "Educating MLS Students to Serve Non-English Speaking Patrons in the E-environment" by Dr. Hsin-liang Chen, assistant professor, School of Information, The University of Texas at Austin; (2) "Library Services Anytime Anywhere in your Language" by Yuhfen Diana Wu, reference and instruction librarian, San Jose State University Library; and (3) "Library Web Design Considerations for ESL Students" by Holly Yu, library Web administrator/reference librarian, California State University at Los Angeles.

A business meeting will follow the program to elect new chapter vice president/president elect and treasurer.
