Chinese Americans among Intel Science Talent Search winners
On March 15, 2005 Intel Corporation and Science Service awarded a total of $530,000 of the
Intel Science Talent Search (STS) awards in Washington, D.C. The 40 Intel Science Talent
Search finalists for 2005 were selected from more than 1,600 applicants by a national jury of
professional scientists. The Intel STS 2005 finalists come from 35 schools in 15 states. Eleven
Chinese Americans received the prestigious prizes. They are:
Sisi Monica Chen of Northview High School, Duluth, Georgia, for her project, Expressing
Integers Using the Least Number of 1's
Stanley Shang Chiang of John L. Miller-Great Neck North High School, Great Neck, New York,
for his project, A Step Closer to the Quantum Computer: Fabrication of Novel Superconducting
Josephson Junctions to Couple Multiple Flux States of a Quantum Bit
Joline Marie Fan of Upper Arlington High School, Columbus, Ohiom for her project, Acoustic
Excitation for Enhancing Interfacial Dynamics of Mesobubbles
Sherri Yifan Geng of Montgomery Blair High School, Rockville, Maryland, for her project,
Automated Seizure Detection Using Statistical Analysis of EEG Time-Domain Signals
Shan Yuan Huang of Longwood High School, Coram, New York, for his project, Charged
Particle Production in High Energy Nuclear Collisions
Yingqiuqi Lei of Robert F. Kennedy Community High School, Flushing, New York, for her
project, Mining the Past: Geochemical Analyses of Fossil Teeth and Sediment Illuminate Ancient
Environments
Po-Ling Loh of James Madison Memorial High School, Madison, Wisconsinm for her project,
Closure Properties of D2p in Finite Groups. Ms Loh is also on the top ten listing.
