Chinese Lang Ping Named U.S. Women's Volleyball Coach


China's "Jenny" Lang Ping, 44, known as the "Iron Hammer" in her playing days on the Chinese national team, has been named head coach of the U.S. women's volleyball team, replacing Japanese Toshi Yoshida.

Lang was an integral part of the Chinese national teams in the '80s that achieved many successes, including a gold medal over the U.S. team in the 1984 Olympics. Lang was inducted into the Volleyball Hall of Fame in 2002 and has been coaching in the Italian League. (Source, AsianWeek, Feb. 18, 2005).
