Shin-Guo Tsai arrested on suspicion of giving away trade secrets

The FBI arrested a San Jose chip design engineer, Shin-Guo Tsai, at his home February 27 night on suspicion of transporting proprietary business information to a potential foreign competitor of his former employer. Tsai, 35, who worked for Fremont-based Volterra Semiconductor until this month, faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted of foreign transportation of stolen property. Tsai was alleged sending e-mail files containing ``data sheets'' to a potential competitor in Taiwan in late December. The value of the information was at least $100,000.
