NYC Chinese museum has $6.5m for expansion

The Museum of Chinese in the Americas at Mulberry Street in Chinatown, New York city, will expand with grants of $6.5 million. The Museum announced September 27 that it will move to a seven story commercial building with 15 feet ceiling at Lafayette a walk away from its current space.

The museum now occupies 1500 square-foot of four rooms housing artifacts and documents. The expansion project is funded by $2 million from the New York City cultural Affairs Department and private and corporate donations. Maya Lin, a noted architect who created the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, will be the designer for the new location. (Source: Chicago Sun-Times, Sept. 28, 2005).
