Cecilia Xie Birge is the first Chinese American mayor of Montgomery Township, New Jersey. In Montgomery, a township committee member volunteers to serve in the mayor's job each year. Earlier this month the committee passed its mayoral torch to Birge. Democrat Birge was re-elected to the committee last November and has served on that panel since 2003.
