Modern Chinese Paintings from the Khoan and Michael Sullivan Collection Venue will be held at the Seattle Asian Art Museum, February 15 -July 29, 2007. This exhibition features sixty-eight Chinese paintings collected by the pioneering scholar of modern Chinese art, Michael Sullivan, whose travel to China during WWII fostered lifelong friendships with some of the most important artists in modern China. Many works in this exhibition were gifts to Sullivan by the artists, from guohua master Huang Binhong (1865-1955) to experimental artist Yue Minjun (b. 1962). A focus in this exhibition will be landscape painting, an age-old genre that developed in various paths and stirred many debates among artists and critics.
