Wang You-theng and his wife, who fled Taiwan amid a financial scandal, arrived Friday in Los Angeles after Singapore turned them back because of problems with Wang's travel documents. Wang's Taiwanese and Dominican Republic passports had been revoked earlier.
Taiwanese officials have been monitoring Wang, founder and chairman of the Rebar Asia Pacific Group, since he fled the island last December after several of his companies were in financial problems.Rebar executives have been accused of embezzling at least $1.5 billion from financial, insurance and other companies in the group.(Source: AP, San Francisco Chronicle, Feb 2, 2007
