heodore Chiu chagred for receiving $50,000 in construction deal

Theodore Chiu, University of California, Riverside administrator, was arrested on suspicion of bribing a general contractor hired to build a new psychology building on campus. Chiu, 53, of Riverside, was being held in the Santa Ana City Jail and was expected to appear in U.S. District Court on Wednesday for a bail hearing. He was alleged to solicit a $50,000 bribe from Irvine-based FTR International Inc, for the $35 million project.

Chiu has worked for the school's design office for 19 years and receives a salary of $108,000 a year. (Source: KFWBNews, Jan 10, 2007).
