PTP Mid America annual meeting August 18

Phi Tau Phi Scholastic Honor Society Mid America 2007 Annual Meeting will be held at the Chinatown Chicago Public Library on Saturday, August 18, 2007 from 10a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Its program is:

The Phi Tau Phi Scholastic Honor Society aims to encourage scholarship, stimulate research, reward scholastic achievement, and form bonds of intellectual and professional fellowship. The Society was initiated in China in 1921, at the suggestion of Professor Joseph H. Eulers of the National Beiyang University. The first National Executive Council consisted of the Minister of Education and the presidents of six leading universities in China, in addition to Professor Joseph Ehlers who acted as the founding Secretary and had vigorously promoted the Society. Phi Tau Phi stands for Philosohia, Technologia and Physiologia, which collectively represent all disciplines of learning.

In 1954, the Society was separately organized in the United States with three regional chapters (East America, Mid-America, and West America). Each regional chapter has its own officers who report to the National Executive Council, which coordinates overall activities. Since 1972, the Society has been formally incorporated in the State of New York as a not-for- profit corporation and has been granted tax exempt status by the Internal Revenue Service. Among the many activities, the Society sponsors seminars and social gatherings, initiates new members, and publishes a membership directory and its journal. Each regional chapter has held annual or semiannual meetings and has gradually expanded its membership by inducting new gradually expanded its membership by inducting new members who have achieved professional distinction and who are genuinely interested in the Society's aims.
