Little Neck man apologizes for Doug hate attack

Paul Heavey, 21, of Little Neck of New York sentenced in last August 12th bias attack against two Chinese-American teens in Douglaston apologized to his victims and to the entire Asian-American community May 21 before he began a sentence of five years probation following a guilty plea to felony assault as a hate crime.

One of Heavey's victims, 20-year-old John Lu, said he hoped his attacker would move on with his life. Heavey's co-defendant, Kevin Brown of Auburndale, is serving a 3?-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to assault as a hate crime and separate assault charges from an earlier incident.
