Chi Mak found guilty in conspiracy case

Chi Mak, reported earlier was found guilty of all charges May 10. He was convicted of conspiracy to violate export control laws, attempting to violate export control laws, acting as an agent of the People's Republic of China and lying to the FBI.

Mak, who is being held without bail at the Santa Ana City Jail. Sentencing was set for Sept. 10. Mak, 67, faces a maximum of 35 years in prison. His brother and sister-in-law and their son also have been charged in the case and are awaiting trial.

Mak was an electrical engineer at Anaheim-based Power Paragon Inc., a firm that works mostly on Navy contracts.. Mak maintained that the disks contained information he thought was in the public domain because it was presented at three symposiums that foreigners attended. (Source: H.G.
