Ms. Li-tung Shih Chang in her paper presented at the Sixth Conference of the International Society for the Study of Overseas Chinese, September 22, in Beijing tells the story of four Chinese American astronauts. Dr. Taylor Wang, currently a professor at Vanderbilt University, was the first Chinese American astronaut into space on April 29, 1985. Dr. Franklin Chang-Diaz holds the record of seven Space Shuttle missions into space. He retired from NASA in 2005. Dr. Leroy Chiao became Space Station commander of "Expedition 10" in 2004. Finally, Dr. Ed Lu now is the only Chinese American in NASA's astronaut corp.
