A Conference of Sino-American Business Relationships will be held at Grand Traverse Resort, Traverse City, Michigan on September 19-21. It is sponsored by Michigan State University College of Law, the law firm of Butzel Long and the National Center for Dispute Settlement
"Bridging the Cultural Divide" which is the theme of the conference, will teach the necessary cross-cultural skills for successful Sino-American business relationships. It is the first conference of its kind being offered in the United States. Nationally-known instructors from the dispute resolution and business fields will lead participants through a comprehensive step-by-step approach to negotiating and maintaining long-term business relationships.
It is designed for American and Chinese attorneys, business executives, and sales/marketing personnel responsible for developing business relationships. Auto industry OEM and supplier representatives, human resource professionals, and others assigned to develop business and Sino-American relationships will also be benefitted from participating in its program.
Courses include (1) Understanding Chinese-American Business Opportunities; (2) Cultural Dissonance: What You Don't Know Can Hurt You; (3) Strategies Planning: Doing Business on the Other Side of the World; (4) Bridging the Cultural Dissonance: What Negotiators Need to Know ; (5) Comparing the Chinese & American Approaches to Negotiation; (6) Preparing for Successful Sino-American Negotiations; (7) Negotiation Techniques: What Works and What Won't; (8) Understanding the Chinese and American Legal Systems; (9) Executing and Enforcing Sino-American Contracts; (10) Cross-Cultural Legal Ethics: The Limits of Lying in Negotiation; (11) Alternative Dispute Resolution techniques for Sino-American Interactions; (12) When Difficulties Arise: Bridging the Cultural Gaps in Resolving Disputes; (13) Chinese Business Banquet Etiquette; and (14) Practicing Critical Cross-Cultural Social Skills
Cost for this program is $2,475 which includes tuition and all course materials, continental breakfasts, refreshment breaks, and social events. It does not include lodging and transportation. Individuals who register by August 1, 2007 will receive the early bird discount and pay $2,250.
