Taiwan develops missile targeting China

Taiwan is clandestinely developing cruise missiles with a range of up to 620 miles that could hit Shanghai, the financial capital of China. Taiwan tested the long-range Hsiungfeng 2E missile earlier this year, according to recent Taiwanese media reports.

Defense experts say Taiwan is developing the long-range missiles to counter the mainland's aggressive military buildup in recent years. Taiwanese leaders say China has deployed some 900 missiles targeting the island off its eastern coasts. (Source: New York Times, Sep 29, 2007
