Proposal to include Taiwan's UN bid on membership rejected

UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- The General Committee of the 62nd session of the UN General Assembly decided on September 19 not to include the so-called issue of "Taiwan's participation in the United Nations," raised by the Solomon Islands and a very few other countries, into the agenda of the General Assembly. Since 1993, the General Assembly has for the 15th consecutive time thwarted Taiwan's attempt to join the world body composed of sovereign states.

UN General Assembly Resolution 2758, adopted in 1971, explicitly stipulates that the representatives of the government of the People's Republic of China are the only legitimate representatives of China in the United Nations. (Source: Chinaview, Sep 20, 2008).
