A civil forum dedicated to promoting peaceful development of relations between Taiwan and China was launched in Taipei March 27.
Wu Rongyuan, chairman of the Labor Party which favors gradual reunification of Taiwan and China, said at the launching ceremony at the Taipei Train Station that cross-strait affairs should not be monopolized by political parties or politicians.
In order to give the grassroots population a say in these affairs, Wu said, his party and 18 other like-minded private groups have founded the Cross-Strait Peaceful Development Forum to seek public support for peaceful development of links between Taiwan and China.
Chi Hsin, a co-convener of the forum and leader of the Alliance for the Reunification of China, said she hoped 2010 would be the beginning of a dynamic peaceful development of ties between China and Taiwan. (Source: Taiwan News,. Mar 27. 2010).
