Yu Yao, 23, died Friday at New York Hospital Queens, after being on life support for nearly a week. He was beaten and sexually assaulted in an alley in Flushing the night of May 18.
State Assemblywoman Grace Meng says she's learned through witnesses and surveillance video that several people walked by the attack and did nothing.
Carlos Salazar Cruz, 28, was arrested after a witness called 911. Charges against him are expected to be upgraded following Yao's death.
